TIN Validation
Definition
Checking that a taxpayer identification number is present, correctly formatted, and consistent with the payee name on file.
Why it matters operationally
Invalid TINs trigger IRS notices and withholding. Validating at W-9 intake is cheaper than fixing after payment.
